Who Are We?

The team at the Center for Research and Training (CRT) at The Learning Center for the Deaf researches, creates, and supports ASL-centric educational tools for deaf and hard of hearing students. We do this by looking beyond current practice, thinking creatively, and continuously innovating. We work with schools, districts and states interested in advancing effective dual language instructional practices in ASL and English. Our team partners with researchers and educators to develop and implement high quality materials, tools, and strategies that support ASL-English instruction and assessment. CRT also contracts with assessment consortia and states to translate standardized state assessments into ASL. In this effort, we train and collaborate with Deaf professionals with appropriate content expertise and ASL fluency, who then participate in translation and review panels throughout the year.

Jeanne Reis, CRT’s Executive Director, is the developer of the ASL Clear online resource found at www.aslclear.org. She has been principal investigator of the ASL Clear research team for over 15 years. CRT also administers the ASLAI, developed by Dr. Robert Hoffmeister, with students aged 4 – 18 in schools, districts and states across the country. More information on the ASLAI can be found here:   http://www.asleducation.org/aslai/
